about
"‘Tidal Wave’ is Hobsons Bay Coast Guard’s most self-assured release yet. Heavy but relaxed, the single has the familiar verbed-out atmosphere of contemporary surf-psych artists like the Allah-Las and Panda Bear while simultaneously embodying the massive, amphitheatre sound of traditional rock greats.
What is ‘Surf’ music? Hobsons’ answer this question with another: what is the ocean? Like a high-fidelity conch shell to the ear, ‘Tidal Wave’ is the surf distilled – pulling you in slowly and powerfully before plunging you into a blissful wipeout over and over again. The vocal melody is simple and electrifying – delivered in a blase, almost 90’s punk intonation. This is a fitting spirit for the warm-hearted nihilism of the lyrics – accepting the destructive nature of change and embracing the end of things. ‘Tidal Wave’ echoes through the chorus repeatedly, foretelling a resolution none of us can control. The refrain is almost an incantation, the band’s signature harmonic layers completing the spell.
Hobsons’ latest offering displays another leap for the DIY producers – both technically and creatively. As with all their work, it was recorded in their home studio and mixed and mastered by the band, and one step closer to alchemising surf-rock into its purest form."

lyrics
Hey Man, What’s the point? Don’t you know that I am coming home?
Hey Son, What you doing? Don’t you know that all will be undone
Hey There, What’s your point? Don’t you know that I won’t be the same?
Hey Son, Don’t be fooled. It’s your time now, we are going home

Hey Son, What you doing? Don’t you know that all will be ok?
